The Rock of Travolta
Listening to The Rock of Travolta really makes you wonder how much an influence ...And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead had when they played at the Point in April. The first track, Giant Robo, could have been something off an AYWKUBTTOD album. Anyone who have seen TROT (hey! that could catch on) will know that they are probably one of the most inventive bands around at the moment. The key thing is that you never know what will happen to the band. Although the line up seems to be pretty stable, the band might just disappear, just as with Phill Honey's previous bands in the last couple of years. There was only one option for the second track of the demo, I am Your Father. Their take on the Star Wars theme has sparked many debates. Should they have really done it? Well diehard Star Wars fans will probably hate it, but where's your sense of fun?

Moonkat - yeeeshk
The last reming girl (mainly) band in Oxford finally have recorded their first demo. They manage to produce 3 tracks. The first two tracks sound a bit like Angelica, but less shouty and confident. The vocals are hidden among the other instruments. In fact the the instruments do seem to take a bigger role. For example, in Merry Go Round, the guitar line is more memorable than the vocals.
In the final track they give up witht the vocals altogether. One for the guitars to go mad to, fuje has a repetative, simple bassline, while Emma and Richard can do whatever they like on top. This might lead to the future sound of Moonkat : Mogwai.
