Blue Apple Boy @ the Point, 17/08/00

Blue Apple Boy don't really know what they want to be. They have the grand sound of Ultrasound, even the guitarist wears those shirts that Tiny seemed to wear all the time, but there are also bits of influence from fairground ride music to calypso. Among all that the group sounded quite disturbing, they even had songs about quite strange subjects, a mental hospital and a bloke who walked while he was asleep. With the intertwined harmonies from the guitarist and the keyboard melodies, and in one song a recitative bit from the singer, they sound like what opera would be like performed by a rock group. On top of all that the lead singer looked like what Morrissey would look like, if Morrissey was a bit fatter, had shaved his hair off, not waving flowers around, and not wearing frilly shirts. All these little snippets are like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, they don't fit in and form the picture you would expect, but when you look again, there is a picture of sorts.
